Loving Instagram

Maybe I am a little late joining the fun, but I am so happy to finally have taken the time to play with Instagram! After my friend wrote about it last week, I said this is it! Finally I can do something fun with the pictures from my phone (because trust me, there are a lot!). And the result is magic... Such pretty images, that I would have never been able to share before. Some of my favorites from the past few weeks...

The weekend's cakes

When I first started with the company, I would always take the time to take pictures of every project. Now that we are doing so much more, the cakes and cupcakes are not documented as much for many reasons: no time, someone else is setting up at the event, we have already made and posted pictures of a similar project, or I just forget to bring the camera with me! Well this past weekend, I made a point of taking a picture or two of every orders (I am missing a beautiful Rapunzel cupcake tower - oh no...). Most are taking quickly at the bakery with the stainless refrigerator as a background, but it is better than nothing, right? So this is what a Blue Cupcake weekend looks like!

Fairy tales cakes and cupcakes
The theme of this party, designed by Jennifer Currier of La Soiree Chic, is fairy tales. The tables all had a different theme, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Frog Prince and the Princess and the Pea. I always like the creativity that goes into a boy/girl theme, and this one was no exception!

This mermaid cake is one of my all time favorites. We first created the design for this event, and it's been a classic ever since.

And the mermaid sugar figurine - really like her!
We also made desserts for a wedding. The bride feel in love with our coconut cake and wanted to keep it simple, while having touches of Tiffany blue on the cake and other treats. I don't have pictures of the display, but here is the cake and macarons.

This other cake was made for a tea and cupcakes party. We also did the coordinating cupcakes with  tea cups, tea pots and mini desserts on stands.

The ladies are having tea, of course!

This very simple cake was made for a baby shower, along with mini cupcakes. The lamb was inspired by a fun chair the baby will have in his room.

Another classic cake we do on a regular basis is the barn yard cake. No picture of the rest of the clan, but this cupcake and cake tower is always beautiful!

And last but not least...  The client wanted to surprise her uncle with a cake that would showcase his passion for gardening and cooking. I had so much fun making all the little details, it takes a long time but I really like doing that kind of detailed work!

Voila! Now you know why I take the day off on Monday... Please tell me what you think, I love reading your comments!

At the Carousel

This display was created for a baby shower with a carousel theme. My dear client created an outstanding decor with antique carousel horses and toys, enormous candy jars, the most beautiful balloon arrangements. Since I have had issues with my camera and to my greatest disappointment, I had to rely on my phone to snap those pics... I wish I could have shared the amazing details of the room with you!

Cupcakes for Spring Affairs

This week has been so busy yet so nice! It all started last weekend with a short visit from my parents. My mom even helped out at the Century City farmers market! She was so tired from all the excitement that she stayed home the next day while I visited the L.A. Zoo with my dad and the kids. But I was back to work that same day to get a head start on the next custom orders.

An event I was looking forward to was this wedding at the Santa Monica Carousel, located at the base of the pier. It was so crowded on this Saturday afternoon that the tower was hit on the way over... Luckily I had some tape on hand and puzzled it back together to create this colorful display.

The top tier has a 6 inch cutting cake, followed by 3 dozens of custom decorated cupcakes and over 120 mini cupcakes at the base.

Fondant covered cake and assorted cupcakes

This baby shower cupcake display was inspired by the invitation provided by the mom-to-be. The outdoor setting was the perfect background for the butterflies decorating the cupcakes.

Last but not least, a young lady was celebrating her 15th birthday in style today. The event was held downtown L.A. and the decor was fit for a queen. Feliz cumpleaƱos!

Noah's Ark Cupcake Tower

Noah's ark themed party to celebrate the first birthday of a little boy named... Noah! I did another Noah's ark display in the past for a set of twins' baby shower (no picture since I had no battery left in the camera!), but this version is definitely more (hu-hum) grown-up. Two by two go the hippos, elephants, lions and many more!

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Elephants

Oh, Sweet Duckies

It seems like only a few things in life never change, and little rubber duckies are one of them. They were there when I was a kid, and they find their way in my own children's tub every night. But since launching Blue Cupcake, I find that they are also very popular on cakes and cupcakes!
